We believe government is for the purpose of protecting our rights, defending the innocent, and establishing peace and order within our society. We reject lawlessness. All human law must square with God’s divine law, and in accord, we affirm the statements “Equal justice for all people” and “No man is above the law.” Justice demands that the punishment properly fit the crime, and that requires us to examine carefully and with wisdom each person’s unique situation. We uphold all requirements for due process as found in the U.S. Constitution, especially the foundational principle that all persons are innocent until proven guilty.
Scripture
- “Rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” (Romans 13:4-5, NIV)
- “When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.” (Proverbs 21:15, NIV)
