Taking Back Our State, Part I: The Inslee Legacy — 200,000 Abortions

This story is Part I of a three-part series that proclaims: It’s time we get back to basics, especially after many years of the most extreme Left agenda in the history of Washington State. It’s time to defend life; defend the innocence of children; and defend religious liberty. Yet the legacy of three-term Gov. Jay R. Inslee (2013-present) includes targeting:

Life, via abortion
The Innocence of Children, via pro-gay and pro-transgender policies
Liberty, especially churches, via Covid lockdowns

In this three-part series, we document the attacks from Governor Inslee. We document them so that you might know them and share them with your friends and family — our cultural apologetic needs to be equipped with historical facts. We have lived through history, and may we never forget this part of the story of our beloved state. And the story of our Evergreen State is not over. Governor Jay Inslee will be remembered as the most pro-abortion governor in the history of Washington State. More than 152,486 abortions have taken place during Governor Inslee’s time in office. That figure includes the years 2013 to 2021, as data for subsequent years are not yet available. If trends continue, the total number of abortions may be close to 200,000 during his reign. Inslee will be remembered by the thousands of lives lost, and the women and families irrevocably harmed due to his immoral, depraved support for abortion. After a 2022 victory at the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion policy is now set on a state-by-state basis, and this state of Washington remains a sanctuary state for abortions — in large part due to Inslee’s pro-abortion ideology.

We will not soon forget Inslee’s unwavering commitment to the murder of innocent babies in the womb. Under his reign, the government:

Stockpiled thousands of doses of abortion pills with $1.3 million in taxpayer money
Offered “sanctuary” to women and teenage girls in states where abortion is banned
Shielded abortionists from prosecution
Funded Planned Parenthood and other providers with $21 million of taxpayer dollars
Supports a constitutional amendment for abortion

Here are a few specifics:

• In 2018, Inslee supported “a measure that would require Washington insurers offering maternity care to also cover elective abortions and contraception.”

• In 2022, a photo from the Associated Press showed Inslee proudly standing behind a Planned Parenthood sign that read “Together We Fight for All” – all, of course, meaning everyone except pre-born infants. (See the pink sign in the picture with Planned Parenthood on it.)

• “We will make Washington state a sanctuary state for the right of choice,” Inslee said. “We will use every resource under the law to defend the rights to choice, to defend privacy rights, and to defend the safety of citizens, including those who come from other states.”

• In 2023, Inslee announced Washington would be the first state to begin stockpiling mifepristone. Inslee ordered the Department of Corrections to purchase a three-year supply of the drug, and at $42.50 per pill, Washington state spent $1,275,000 taxpayer dollars on 30,000 of the life-ending pills. Mifepristone and misoprostol have been used to abort over five million babies since it was approved by the FDA in 2000, according to the Justice Department. This dangerous form of abortion accounts for 60% of all abortions in Washington.

“We have to be observant, aggressive and protective of this freedom right, or it will be lost,” Inslee told Chris Jansing.

Again in 2023, Inslee testified before the Senate Health & Long Term Care committee on behalf of a bill that would enshrine the “right” to abortion in Washington’s state constitution. Inslee reportedly said during the committee meeting that “no legislator has the right to force a woman to endure an unwanted pregnancy.”

“In the past six years, Republicans have introduced 40 bills to take away and inhibit a woman’s right of choice,” Inslee said. “Because of this Republican assault on women’s rights in this state, without a constitutional amendment to solidify this right under our state’s constitution, we are one Republican majority from losing the right of choice in the state of Washington.”

In addition to the constitutional amendment for abortion, Inslee also supported numerous measures in the legislature that would strengthen abortion access, such as HB 1469, which shields abortionists from prosecution, and SB 5242, which forces private insurance companies to provide abortions for free, with no copays or requirement to meet a deductible.

Governor Inslee leaves behind a disgraceful legacy of cruelty to the unborn, and his 12 years as Washington’s leader have left us worse than when he began, with hundreds of thousands of “persons with potential” murdered under his watch.

Here are FPIW we believe the safest place in our state should be a mother’s womb. We stand to defend the defenseless and to be a voice to the voiceless. Government’s first priority should be to protect the innocent and to defend the right to life. The womb should be a safe place for babies because the pro-life logic is clear:

Premise 1: Government should protect the life of human beings.

Premise 2: All human beings have a right to life.

Premise 3: Pre-born children of human beings are in fact human beings.

Therefore: The law must protect the pre-born.

By supporting abortion, Governor Inslee has inverted the most basic purpose of government. The Silent Scream cries out across Washington State from those 200,000 babies murdered by abortionists and those who support them.
