Lions Den

Courage for Leaders in a Faithless Age

Replace the Fear of Man with a Reverence for God

What this resource is

A discipleship guide for elected officials, civil servants, and faith leaders who want to serve with biblical courage and integrity in hostile cultural environments. Lions Den uses Daniel 6—the story of a faithful servant trapped by unjust laws—as a template for leaders navigating modern political and social pressure.

This is not a partisan playbook. It’s a biblical refusal to choose between compromise and courage.

Why elected leaders need this now

  • The fear of man brings a snare (Proverbs 29:25). Leaders constantly face pressure to abandon conviction for approval, to appease majority opposition, or to silence biblical truth to preserve position.
  • A healthy fear of God replaces people-pleasing with obedience to God’s design for governance—serving as “a minister of God to you for good” (Romans 13:4).
  • Accountability shapes leadership. When officials truly grasp that they will answer to God for how they stewarded their power (Romans 14:10–12, 2 Corinthians 5:10), it transforms their decisions.

The Daniel model

Daniel refused to abandon prayer and obedience to God when a corrupt king signed a decree forbidding it. Facing the lions’ den, he did not cave to fear of man. He trusted God. He was delivered. And his faithfulness changed a pagan king’s heart.

Civil servants today face similar tests: laws that conflict with God’s design, cultural majorities hostile to biblical values, networks that reward compromise. Lions Den equips them to choose God over the crowd.

What’s inside

  • Biblical Foundation: Daniel 6 exegesis showing Daniel’s extraordinary character, the trap set against him, and his miraculous deliverance—with application to modern public service.
  • Fear of Man vs. Fear of God: Scripture-based contrast (Galatians 1:10, Isaiah 41:10, Matthew 10:28) with reflection questions and prayers for repentance.
  • The Judgment Seat of God: Honest exploration of how accountability before Christ (not just voters) clarifies decision-making and removes the tyranny of public opinion.
  • Grace and Faith: How God’s mercy in the gospel empowers leaders to stand firm without arrogance, and to serve faithfully even when culture demands surrender.

Who it’s for

  • Elected officials (local, state, and federal) who want their faith to shape their governance, not merely decorate it.
  • Civil servants, school board members, commissioners, and appointees navigating institutional pressure to compromise biblical values.
  • Pastors and church leaders calling their people to faithful civic engagement.
  • Any Christian in a position of influence who feels the weight of fear—of losing reputation, position, relationships, or political capital for standing on Scripture.

What participants will gain

  • Spiritual clarity: A clearer grasp of what Jesus meant when He said, “Do not fear those who kill the body…fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
  • Pastoral support: Prayers, reflection questions, and Scripture that meet leaders where they struggle—in the lonely moments when conviction and career seem to collide.
  • Practical courage: Concrete reasons to choose God’s judgment over man’s approval, rooted in grace, not guilt.

Partnering with FPIW

Lions Den is part of the Family Policy Institute of Washington’s broader mission to equip and embolden believers to defend and advance biblical values in the public square.[file:2] It’s designed to be used in small groups of leaders, in one-on-one discipleship, or in personal reflection and prayer.

To order Lions Den, access additional Defender resources, or partner with FPIW to equip leaders across Washington with biblical conviction and courage, visit fpiw.org or fpiwdefender.org.

Because in the end, elected officials answer to God—not to Twitter, not to polls, not to party leadership. Lions Den reminds them why that truth liberates.
