Living in Exile: Ten Actions for a Hostile Culture[1]
In a state where Olympia’s policies increasingly mirror Babylon—exalting sin, undermining parents, and harming the vulnerable—many Christians are asking, “What should I do while living in a time when sin prevails and hope has vanished?” Living in Exile is a powerful, scripture-saturated guide that helps believers in Washington move from fear and frustration to courageous, gospel-centered engagement in the public square.
What this resource is
- A 28-page, Ezekiel-based devotional and action guide that connects the prophet’s life in Babylon with the realities Christians face in Washington today.
- Published by Family Policy Institute of Washington (FPIW), created to equip believers to defend and advance biblical values in the public square.
Ten actions for real-world courage
Each chapter pairs an Ezekiel passage with pointed reflection questions and a concrete action step for life in “modern Babylon”:
- Run Toward Danger: Confront rebellion instead of retreating into comfort or silence.
- Speak Up & Speak Truth: Refuse fear and isolation; say what God says, whether they listen or not.
- Be a Living Sign: Let your visible choices, not just your words, reveal that you belong to another Kingdom.
- Practice Justice: Refuse compromise with cultural idols; walk in personal righteousness and integrity.
- Stand in the Gap: Become an intercessor for your community, not a spectator of its decline.
- Be a Watchman: Sound the alarm about destructive policies and ideas before they harm those you love.
- Know God’s Heart: Reject the lie of an “angry only” God and rediscover His desire for repentance, mercy, and life.
- Be a Good Shepherd: Shift from self-preservation to sacrificial care for the broken, scattered, and vulnerable.
- Proclaim Hope: Speak resurrection hope over “dry bones” where discouragement and cynicism have taken hold.
- Pray for Restoration: Ask God to restore Olympia and Washington, trusting His promise to gather, heal, and pour out His Spirit.
Who it’s for
- Pastors, ministry leaders, and small group facilitators looking for a biblically grounded, Washington-specific discipleship tool.
- Christian citizens who feel held hostage by the public square yet long to respond with courage, clarity, and compassion.
- Intercessors, activists, and everyday believers who want to move from vague concern to concrete, prayerful action.
How ministries can use it
- Small groups and classes: Use each action as a weekly study focus with built-in questions and prayer prompts.
- Church-wide engagement: Pair chapters with sermons on exile, holiness, spiritual courage, or public theology.
- Civic discipleship pipelines: Integrate as a first-step resource for new “Defenders” learning to engage Olympia.
Partner with FPIW
Living in Exile is more than a booklet—it is an invitation to join a statewide movement of Washington Defenders who pray, speak, vote, and act with a biblical worldview. Through monthly or multi-year giving to FPIW (501c3) and FPIW Action (501c4), partners help expand a roughly $1 million budget toward a $1.5 million “dream” that would allow biblical impact in every county in Washington.
