“I’m from a big Catholic family, so maybe it’s appropriate that I start with a bit of a confession. …
I am sure I have never once gotten up and spoken about my faith.”
– Gov. Bob Ferguson of Washington State
At FPIW, we believe in the power of prayer. Earlier this year during the Legislative Session in Olympia, hundreds of people from across our state joined us for our daily Prayer Tours at the Capitol. There we walked the campus grounds and prayed together for our state and for our legislators.
With the Legislative Session finished, now we are encouraging people to keep praying and to pray for Gov. Bob Ferguson specifically. Here are four areas you may wish to pray for:
• Salvation through faith in Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, and appearance. (1 Corinthians 15:1-7)
• Changed and Transformed Heart. (Romans 12:1-2)
• Policy that glorifies God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
• Wisdom from God’s Word. (Proverbs 2:6)
Earlier this year, Gov. Ferguson attended the Prayer Breakfast in Olympia. He shared about his ‘faith’ publicly for the first time: “I’m from a big Catholic family, so maybe it’s appropriate that I start with a bit of a confession.” After some 20 years in politics and literally thousands of speeches, he notes: “I am sure I have never once gotten up and spoken about my faith.” He teared up while speaking about the power of his mother’s prayers for him.
Here is the video of Gov. Ferguson sharing:

As Christians, we are commanded to be involved in the political realm through prayer and supplication. Here is one verse from Scripture we consider important:
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 2:1–4, NKJV
Many Christians today lack direction when it comes to praying for all the specific facets of our government and society that desperately need to be covered in prayer. We offer this prayer guide as a starting point to lead your daily prayers and give you direction.
Finally, to pray for a specific legislator that God has placed upon your heart, please join our “Adopt an Elected” ministry here.
If you are interested in becoming an intercessor as part of our Defenders team, we encourage you to consider applying today. We need prayer warriors like you to engage in the spiritual battles being waged in our state that are deeply impacting our legislature, our churches, and our communities.
We offer a free booklets on prayer: Public Square Prayer Guide & Intercessory Prayer Strategy
