“The Church must take ground in regards to politics . . . The time has come that Christians must vote . . . God cannot sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God.”

— Charles Finney, as highlighted on the website of We Believe We Vote

We Believe We Vote is an organization of Evangelical Christians who care deeply about our nation because they know one crucial fact: a nation’s fate is linked directly to its faith. In accord, their mission is direct and simple: “Our aim is to make our nation pleasing to Jesus Christ,” and in making its faith strong, they know our state and nation will flourish.

Located in Spokane, Washington, they focus on our state by dovetailing four things: Prayer, Scripture, the US Constitution, and, of course, Voting. First and foremost, We Believe We Vote Ministries is rooted in Scripture: “[We are] guided by the Bible to affect political and social reform that reflects the values of God’s Word.” Such a belief has practical implications. As they outline, they aspire to:

• Influence our nation to uphold and promote the ways of God in spiritual, social, and political spheres.

• Use Biblical principles to educate voters and advocate for ballot initiatives, policies, practices, candidates, and legislation that is honoring to God.

• Initiate and coordinate relationships with other like-minded individuals, organizations, and churches.

• Advocate and guide Christian involvement in everything we do, that the goodness of God’s ways would be self-evident to all.

History and Leadership

Founded in 2009 by Penny Lancaster, one key aim has always been to inform Christians about pro-family, pro-biblical values candidates:

In the late 1990s, a concerned citizen named Penny Lancaster noticed societal changes that troubled her deeply. She perceived a degradation of the family unit and felt an urgent call to action. Penny founded an initiative named “Penny’s Picks” aimed to guide voters towards candidates who shared family-oriented values.

Today, the family-oriented mission of We Believe We Vote remains the same. In 2026, the organization is carefully stewarded by the Leadership Team that includes people who have dedicated much of their lives to turning biblical ethical principles into practical action:

We Believe We Vote also reaches out to join with local fellow allies and friends. It has “100+ pastors located in Eastern Washington, who are recommending We Believe We Vote as a resource to their congregations and other pastors. We are also an affiliate of the Greater Spokane Association of Evangelicals and continue to support this organization on a local level.” Here’s a sample of events they either host or support, and note the outstanding emphasis upon the power of prayer:

During the years, such a commitment to prayer and practical action has drawn some top-tier guests at fundraisers, including Kirk Cameron (left) and Mike Huckabee:

Loving Our Neighbors By Voting

Electing God-fearing candidates is one important way every Christian can love their neighbor. FPIW is delighted to support such an effort by We Believe We Vote. In fact, such a goal continues the call from many years ago. The great evangelist Charles Finney from the Second Great Awakening (late 1800’s) said: “The time has come that Christians must vote . . . God cannot sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God” — and in such a Godly mission, We Believe We Vote will remain at the forefront.

We can trust We Believe We Vote with a confidence grounded in their faithful commitment to Prayer, Scripture, and our US Constitution. As we survey the political landscape, the choice is ours: “We can either vote, or be outvoted” – and by supporting such an organization as We Believe We Vote that informs and equips Christians, we can become a state that believes Christian values and votes Christian values, too.
