In a courtroom 48 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court issued two decisions that would change the direction of our nation. Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, collectively, legalized surgical and chemical abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, enabling nearly five decades of state-sanctioned, taxpayer-funded abortion; more than 63 million people have been killed as a result.
While some states have since been allowed to enact very limited restrictions, government-sanctioned abortion remains the law of the land for virtually any reason – or no reason at all. Here in Washington State, the government not only tolerates abortion, but actively promotes it as a “healthcare” option. The Democrat-controlled Washington Legislature is working to make abortion even more accessible to children and students. With HB1225 being introduced this session, Planned Parenthood Clinics may soon be able to operate in public schools all across the state.
Abortion is not, has not been, and will never be healthcare. Healthcare gives life; abortion takes life and destroys families.
Before leaving office this week, President Donald Trump issued a last-minute proclamation designating January 22nd as the National Sanctity of Human Life Day. On the same day, President Biden, still proclaiming to be a “Devout Catholic,” publicly, with no hint of hypocrisy or shame, put out an announcement celebrating the Roe v. Wade decision that has murdered 63 million unborn babies.
While President Biden continues to get a pass on this issue from some Catholic and Evangelical leaders, Americans cannot continue to live in contradiction to the values that have sustained our nation for more than 230 years. The nation was founded upon the idea that each member of the human race is created equal and endowed by their Creator with rights. Tragically, more than 63 million unborn Americans have been denied the most basic natural right: the right to experience life.
Christians, and people of good will who embrace life and virtue, must stand up and speak up before it’s too late. The threats to our national identity are too great to remain silent, and our children – the next generation – are the targets.
The Washington legislature has been nothing but a giant test tube for the most radical and dangerous liberal policies. The Democratic majorities continue to mandate the affirmation of sexual orientation and gender identity. They passed SeXXX Education Mandates last year, and this year aim to pass HB5044, which mandates Critical Race Theory Training. They want to put Planned Parenthood clinics in public schools. It is time for all parents to reconsider sending their child to a Washington State public school. Frankly, I don’t think the Devil himself could make our schools into a more deadly, abusive, or faithless place for our children than what our state legislature is doing!
Now is the time to lift our voice “in defense of our most ancient values and enduring ideals.” Now is the time to remind our nation that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Now is the time to stand up and “rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter” (Proverbs 24:11).
As we mourn 48 years of legalized abortion, I hope you’ll join us in the cause of life and our children. We cannot – we must not – allow justice to be denied for another day. We remain optimistic that the current composition of the U.S. Supreme Court will be able and willing to revisit Roe and other cases that have enabled in-womb genocide for almost 50 years now.
Now is the time to lean into our values and commit to protecting them no matter what. We may be persecuted, we may be censored, and we may be canceled. But if that’s the cost of speaking truth to power and saving lives, it’s a price we need to be willing to pay.
