How would you like nine new or higher taxes for 2025? A slip of a private email resulted in a significant political story during this Christmas season, and it foreshadows what may come in the new year. The Seattle Times reports:
Sen. Noel Frame, D-Seattle, emailed a presentation of “2025 Revenue Options” to fellow Senate Democrats, saying it was “for internal purposes only and is not intended to be shared publicly.” But she accidentally sent the email to Senate Republicans too. It was quickly shared with journalists and posted online by some lawmakers.
These leaked documents from Washington Senate Democrats reveal their secret messaging strategy for tax policies that aim to villainize wealthy residents and manipulate the masses.
Notably, the documents reveal a proposed policy to create a new 11% tax on firearms, ammunition, and parts. The tax would be stacked on top of existing state, local, and federal taxes for firearms, which would bump the overall tax rate for firearms to over 30% if implemented.
The strategy behind many of the policy proposals is clear: convince middle-class residents that wealthy business owners (the “villains”) are not “paying what they owe.” In reality, those wealthy families generate immense economic growth for the state and help lower the cost of living for all residents. Increasing taxes on those individuals will hamper their ability to continue doing so, driving them out of the state and leaving Washington reeling. These short-sighted Democrat policies are villainizing the very people that keep Washington running.
Democrats said the quiet part out loud, and it’s just as bad as we knew it would be. (You can find more analysis here.) In fact, the high taxes have resulted in Washington being ranked among the worst states at Number 45 in terms of tax competitiveness, reveals the Tax Foundation. Such taxation is often an excuse to cover-up reckless spending, which has caused “a self-inflicted wound” on the budget:
Washington residents should take note and push back against these manipulation tactics and bad policies that have harmed our state.
