Hope for the Future: Washington’s Election Results

Election Days are like taking a cultural gauge, like taking a culture’s temperature. We rejoice and praise God for the triumph of victory. And we also recognize that we have much work to do here in our own state. You are very much needed to engage our cultural struggle right here on the home front.

The Good News

In January 2025, Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. As a result, we know the future is brighter nationally for the protection of children, women’s sports, parental rights, and traditional values. The state of Washington, as expected, cast its 12 electoral votes for Vice President Kamala Harris – but that did not deter Trump’s inevitable win. Perhaps help for Washington must come from outside Washington – we have the perfect scenario nationally to see that happen, beginning in January.

The Mixed News

Unfortunately, abortion rights were advanced in seven states: Arizona, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, and Nevada. The good news is that amendments seeking to enshrine abortion rights in state constitutions were defeated in three states: Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska. We have much work to do over the next four years on the pro-life front.

Also, only one out of the four statewide referendums sponsored by Let’s Go Washington made it to the finish line. The good news is that with the passage of I-1066, natural gas will be protected in our state. This win should not be undermined by the defeat of the other amendments – progress is progress!

Opportunities To Improve

More than ever before, we have a great need for conservative Washingtonians to rise up in defense of faith, family, and freedom. We experienced a near-total wipeout of the GOP in the Washington legislature and state government election races. This news is disappointing, but it is not cause for despair. We will take this momentary defeat and use it as ammunition and encouragement to continue pushing for conservative values in the public square.

The results of this election once again emphasize the crucial need for Defenders in our state. We call on you, conservatives of Washington, to stand together with FPIW in unity and pray that God is not done with our state.

You can learn more about our public policy stances by reading our Issues Booklet, which can be found here. Please consider joining our group of DEFENDERS to advocate for your values in the public square and beyond.
