Tuesday afternoon, November 24th at 3:00pm, the Pierce County Council in Tacoma will vote on Ordinance 2015-46, which would add “gender identity” to the list of protected classes in the county.
Though we are unsure why this piece of legislation is necessary due to its existence in statute at the state level, passage of this ordinance would be troubling, especially in light of the ongoing battles to allow people of any perceived genders into whichever restroom they happen to feel they identify with on any given day.
A call to the office of Councilmember Derek Young, the sponsor of the ordinance, went unanswered this morning.
If you live in the Pierce County area, we encourage you to attend the Council meeting today at 3:00pm. The meeting will take place at 930 Tacoma Avenue South, Room 1045, Tacoma, WA 98402. More details, such as the meeting agenda and meeting location, can be found here.
