Pray for Israel

For almost two weeks, national news has been flooded with the gruesome details of the Israel-Hamas war – the heartbreaking stories of families torn apart, innocent civilians captured and murdered, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Despite the atrocities committed by the terrorist organization Hamas, which works in favor of neither Israel nor the people of Gaza, many on the Left refuse to denounce the organization and their actions, calling instead for Israel to issue a ceasefire and effectively allow Hamas to overtake them.

Outbursts of anti-Semitism and pro-Hamas attitudes have inundated college campuses and shocked the country in their severity, with some students even holding Israel “entirely responsible for all unfolding violence,” despite the indisputable fact that it was Hamas’s unprovoked airstrike which began the war. The protests and demonstrations come as no surprise, however, to those aware of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion curricula now required as general education courses in many colleges.

“At its worst, DEI is built on the unshakable belief that the world is divided into two groups of people: the oppressors and the oppressed,” former director of a DEI program Tabia Lee wrote. “Jews are categorically placed in the oppressor category, while Israel is branded a ‘genocidal, settler, colonialist state.’” (emphasis added)

So, it’s no wonder that college students are reacting the way they are to the Hamas-Israeli conflict – this radical indoctrination has been shaping their worldview since day one of orientation. This, however, is no excuse for students, who should be fully capable of forming their own opinions, to condone the reprehensible actions of a terrorist organization. Siding with Hamas is inexcusable – especially when it comes to our elected officials.

We call on our legislators to condemn unequivocally the horrors committed by the terrorist organization Hamas and defend the truth, refusing to cave to false narratives and reports pushed by anti-Israel media sources.

Although the war in Israel seems like a world away from us, at FPIW we are committed to defending and advancing Biblical values in the public square. This war is a pivotal issue that requires Christians to stand up for the truth despite the hatred and anger it may spark from the Left and the misinformation campaign waged in the media. Don’t back down from defending God’s chosen people because of faulty news reports or vitriol from the Left. This situation requires clarity, wisdom, and discernment, which God will provide.

We know that God gave Israel an unconditional covenant promise that guarantees the continuation of the Jewish people. His hand is still upon them. Nevertheless, we encourage you to pray for Israel’s protection, a swift end to the violence, and the salvation of every individual involved in this dispute – the Israelis, Gazans, as well as every member of Hamas. You may find it difficult to pray for those inflicting so much violence on innocent men, women and children, but we are called to pray for our enemies, and we know that more than anything, these terrorists need the saving power of Jesus in their lives.

“Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.” – Psalm 121:4-7 (KJV)
