With the speed of Internet and a multitude of platforms for anyone (except those who have been banned, like President Trump) to voice their opinions in a fraction of a second, an individual might wake up beloved by society, and by nightfall, find themselves completely cancelled and their personal and professional lives ruined.
In the age of hashtags, groupthink spirals out of control quickly – especially when radical, anti-Christian influencers decide amongst themselves that the dissenting opinions of another are not strictly in line with their own pagan moral codes.
Take for example the CEO of MyPillow, Mike Lindell, who did not shy away from speaking out about his opinions on widespread fraud across the country during the 2020 presidential election. His questioning of the election results resulted in several major retailers, like Bed Bath & Beyond and Wayfair, pulling his products off of their shelves.
Similarly, last year, Goya CEO Robert Unanue had the audacity to say that he believed our country was “truly blessed…to have a leader like President Trump.” Unanue, the CEO of the largest Hispanic-owned company in the United States, was immediately “cancelled” as liberals demanded a boycott of their products.
Perhaps even more shockingly, famed liberal author of the Harry Potter series J.K. Rowling faced global backlash after affirming the reality of biological sex. The ravenous left immediately labeled Rowling as transphobic for saying, “I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”
Of course, most recently Gina Carano, star of Disney’s show, The Mandalorian, was fired for observing that the Nazis’ hatred of Jewish people is not all that different from hating someone because of their political views. Almost instantly, the Twitter bandwagon got rolling, demanding Carano’s cancellation.
Here in Washington State, faithful Christians and Conservatives – who account for about 43% of the population – have been effectively “canceled” or “censored,” to the point no one knows that we exist. From the Seattle Times to cable TV coverage to the opinionmakers in both government and academia, virtually all coverage of the debate on issues is one-sided and half the state has been canceled.
Only talk radio has kept Christians or conservatives from being completely cancelled. If talk radio, made viable by Rush Limbaugh, God rest his soul, didn’t liberate radio from the elites, the entire media spectrum would have effectively canceled Christians already, and free speech would not exist anywhere in Washington State.
Our founding fathers emphasized the right to free speech in the very first amendment to the Constitution because the freedom to express oneself as they choose is essential for a society free at large. If someone cannot speak without facing sweeping cancellation, or is consistently denied coverage by newspapers, TV, the web, and opinionmakers, then speech is not truly free, nor is a nation truly free.
Cancel culture is a reflection of the increasingly tyrannical, godless society we live in, where secular-obsessed elites are seen as moral arbiters who decide what can be discussed and what is censored and canceled. Today, their primary targets are conservatives and those Christians who teach HIS truths in the public square. This far-reaching effort is not just a threat to America, but to the survival of all nations. Even rapidly secularized France has recognized the dangers and evils of the “totalitarian” American cancel culture, and they now consider it ”a global threat.”
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matt 28:18
Citizens, especially Christians, must be able to speak the truth and not be canceled in the public square. Unless cancel culture is stamped out, we can never expect to live in a moral and free nation again.
