2022 has been a year of victory for the pro-life movement, and yet another legal victory has come down – this time a settlement from the University of Washington. After years of fighting to keep their records secret, the University of Washington will pay the attorney fees of citizen journalist David Daleiden and release documents relating to the university’s purchase and/or sale of aborted fetal body parts.
David Daleiden and FPIW were both sued by Planned Parenthood back in 2016 in the hunt for this data and it is gratifying to see this settlement.
When Mr. Daleiden filed his request for public records that would make clear the relationship between Planned Parenthood and the UW Birth Defects Research Laboratory, FPIW filed the same request the day after. In response, both Mr. Daleiden and FPIW’s Communications Director at the time, Zachary Freeman, were sued by Planned Parenthood. Years later, after congressional hearings and multiple subpoenas, the taxpayers of Washington will finally get to find out the details of their state-funded university’s program to buy and sell the organs of aborted children. The taxpayers of Washington deserve to know what their tax dollars were spent on. Mr. Daleiden’s win is a boon for the movement and a blow to Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood has been hit hard this year, with their abortion services driven out of 13 states in the wake of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
We look forward to a day when the last Planned Parenthood closes its doors forever in Washington, and with more clarity regarding the barbaric practices they engage in, we pray that day comes soon.
We here at FPIW would like to applaud the outstanding legal efforts of the Thomas More Society, who represented Mr. Daleiden in this case, as well as Mr. Daleiden himself for his courage in persisting in this legal battle for 6 years.
Together, the pro-life movement is winning back ground in the fight to defend the unborn.
Together, we watched 2022 become the year where Roe fell.
Together, we can make 2023 another year of progress towards a society without abortion.
