“I was saved by God to make America great again.”
– President Donald J. Trump
After the disappointing results of Washington State’s local elections in November 2024, we noted that “perhaps help for Washington must come from outside Washington.” We’re thankful that three weeks into the new administration, we can already say that help for Washington State and the nation at large has come. What happens in Washington, DC impacts us here in Washington State, and there is good news to share.
1. Protecting Children From Trans Surgeries
President Trump signed the “Protecting Children From Chemical And Surgical Mutilation” Executive Order, which prohibits the federal government from funding medical institutions that provide “gender-affirming care” treatments to anyone under the age of 19. “Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the Order established.
News outlets are already reporting that major hospitals such as Seattle Children’s are pausing or indefinitely postponing transgender operations for minors. (See the headline from The Stranger publication.) Seattle Children’s was ranked #4 on the “Dirty Dozen” list of the nation’s highest-offending hospitals when it comes to child transitions.
President Trump is already helping protect hundreds if not thousands of children in Washington from medical mutilation, and for that, we are incredibly thankful.
2. Protecting Girls’ and Women’s Sports
On National Girls & Women in Sports Day, President Trump signed the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” Executive Order to ensure that biological men are barred from competing in female-only sports leagues and teams at publicly funded schools, colleges, and universities.
“The radical left has waged an all-out campaign to erase the very concept of biological sex and replace it with a militant transgender ideology. With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” President Trump declared at the signing. “We’re putting every school receiving taxpayers’ dollars on notice that if you let men take over women’s sports teams or invade your locker rooms, you will be investigated for violations of Title IX and risk your federal funding. There will be no federal funding.”
In a major victory for women and girls, the NCAA has already pledged to alter its policies to comply with the Order, which will impact hundreds of thousands of student-athletes nationwide. This Order supersedes state and local ordinances, meaning that public schools in Washington and beyond will risk their federal funding if they continue to allow boys to compete on girls’ teams (or vice versa).
3. Pardoning Pro-Life Activists
President Trump also pardoned 23 pro-life activists who were unjustly imprisoned for peacefully protesting outside abortion clinics, several of whom were convicted for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) Act at a Washington clinic. A few days later at the national March for Life, it was the first time in the history of that event that the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and the Senate Majority Leader all came to speak in person.
4. Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias
On February 6, Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at eliminating anti-Christian bias in the federal government through the creation of a new task force, which will be led by Attorney General Pam Bondi. “My Administration will not tolerate anti-Christian weaponization of government or unlawful conduct targeting Christians,” the Order states. “The law protects the freedom of Americans and groups of Americans to practice their faith in peace, and my Administration will enforce the law and protect these freedoms. My Administration will ensure that any unlawful and improper conduct, policies, or practices that target Christians are identified, terminated, and rectified.”
5. No More Pride Flags
Under the Trump administration’s new “One Flag Policy,” domestic and international embassies and government outposts will no longer be allowed to fly political flags such as Pride or Black Lives Matter flags. Government facilities will only be permitted to fly the US flag, with exceptions for the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) emblem and the Wrongful Detainees flag. “The U.S. flag is a powerful symbol of pride and it is fitting and respectful that only the U.S. flag be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestically and abroad,” the Order explained.
6. No More Pronouns on Email Signatures
Many of Trump’s other actions in office will directly impact federal agencies in Washington, such as the mandate that federal workers remove personal pronouns (such as he/him, she/her) from their email signatures.
These small changes signify a larger cultural shift in the federal government that will doubtlessly have a trickle-down effect on the general public. In a state that leans heavily toward the Left, these actions come as a welcome reprieve. These policies are a step in the right direction for Washington and give FPIW a foot-up in achieving more pro-family, pro-freedom wins in our state.
